AlphaGraphics Kansas City Brings Google’s Flip Card Display to Life for 2024 NWSL Championship

Imagine a sea of vibrant panels flipping in perfect unison, revealing a powerful message of unity and celebration. That's exactly what AlphaGraphics Kansas City brought to life for the 2024 National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) Championship in Kansas City! As part of an innovative campaign led by Google Pixel x NWSL, we produced 54 custom PVC panels to create a stunning flip card display, highlighting Google Pixel's sponsorship and this historic event.

Designed by local illustrator Kai Johnson, the installation was both massive and meaningful. The panels were flipped as part of an on-field promotion before the match. When the cards were flipped, the message read "GOAL" and created a layered story: celebrating the spirit of Kansas City, the strength of women athletes, and the significance of the championship being held in the first stadium built specifically for women’s soccer. You can learn more about Kai's process and the full design here.

From the initial concept request to the final delivery at the stadium, AlphaGraphics Kansas City meticulously handled the production of the 54 high-quality PVC signs. Each panel, measuring 19” x 34”, was printed using our state-of-the-art UV Flatbed printer, ensuring vibrant colors and lasting durability. We specifically selected 3mm PVC for its lightweight nature, making it easy for fans to hold the signs overhead for extended periods without fatigue. "It was crucial that the signs were not only visually impactful but also practical for the event," explained Brandon Humphrey, Production Scheduler. Each panel played a vital role in the larger, interactive display, flipping to reveal striking visuals that celebrated Kansas City's spirit and the advancement of women's sports.

“We’re honored to support projects that elevate community stories,” said Haley Haar, President at AlphaGraphics Kansas City. “This installation was more than signage—it was a celebration of visibility, inclusion, and pride for Kansas City and women’s soccer fans everywhere. I was proud to see it in person when we attended the championship.”

Positioned prominently pitchside at the NWSL Championship game, the flip card display ignited excitement both in the stadium and online. It was widely shared across social media platforms and used in posts by Google Pixel and the NWSL. This innovative display captured the attention of local attendees, visiting fans, and national press outlets, including AdWeek.

The collaboration between Google Pixel, Kai Johnson, AlphaGraphics Kansas City, and other key partners exemplified the power of print to transform a creative vision into a highly visible and impactful experience. This project demonstrated how innovative print solutions can amplify a message and create a lasting impression. As Kansas City continues to thrive as a vibrant hub for sports, culture, and design, we at AlphaGraphics Kansas City are proud to contribute to moments that resonate deeply with the community and celebrate significant achievements.
