Every year, Pantone Color Institute assembles a panel of the top leaders in design, fashion, technology, and other industries, to carefully select the Color of the Year. While many people think that the Color of the Year is Pantone's "prediction" for what will trend in these industries over the next 12-months, there's actually a lot more to the process than just a guess of what we'll think is cool in the coming year. "The Pantone Color of the Year has come to mean so much more than 'what's trending' in the world of design," said Laurie Pressman, the Vice President of Pantone, "It's truly a reflection of what's needed in our world today."
"The Pantone Color of the Year has come to mean so much more than 'what's trending' in the world of design; it's truly a reflection of what's needed in our world today."
For starters, Pantone tries to encapsulate not only what's trending currently all over the globe, but also to embody the current emotional-psychological state of humanity as a whole. Additionally, these colors aren't just pretty labels to stick on a year, but they are color experts hopes and wishes for us all in the coming year.
