Today we're going to start a weekly series which will be a short brief about tips and pointers in
Online Marketing. Today we'll focus on the topic of selecting a domain name.
When choosing a domain name make
sure the domain name is spelling correctly. This seems like a no brainer, but believe me, the last think you want to do is register your domain only to find out its spelled wrong.
Another important thing to think about is LENGTH of your domain name. A longer name won't stick well with people who want to type it into the URL bar, Short is better!
Select a domain name that isn't going to compete with a business who has a similar name. Check with upsto.gov/main/trademarks.htm to see what Trademark infringements exist so that your efforts don't go to waste.
If you want to be remembered as a destination site (a site where people will constantly type in your URL) try to come up with a name that is close to the beginning or end of the alphabet. Creating a unique name that has verbage, like Google, is another route to go.
