With a growing environmental conscience, many individuals and companies are seeking to become more responsible in their corporate actions. For many, it has become acceptable to solve the problem by cutting the amount of paper they use and by recycling the paper they do use.
A move to paperless has been helpful in attacking the problem, but many companies and individuals simply cannot afford to move everything to paperless, just by nature of their needs. Though, recycling is certainly helpful, it doesn't actually solve the problem. Even despite growing technology,
only 35% of paper consumption can be replaced with recyclable paper leaving a great majority of paper needs to what is called "virgin pulp" or simply put, un-recycled paper.
Considering this, one of the most important ways an individual or business can become more environmentally friendly in their paper consumption is to elect to use a type of paper that is certified by the
Forest Stewardship Council.
The Forest Stewardship council says, "The FSC certification system allows these professionals to know they are doing the right thing, and taking business away from other companies that may still be supporting illegal, unsustainable, unverified logging activities. The intent of the FSC system is to shift the market to eliminate habitat destruction, water pollution, displacement of indigenous peoples and violence against people and wildlife that often accompanies logging."
The effects of deforestation are not only the loss of millions of trees, but an unsustainable process that endangers communities and effects the very people that live in areas rampant with illegal deforestation.
At
AlphaGraphics Chicago North, we made the choice to use FSC certified paper because we wanted to allow our clients to partner with us in the process of supporting responsible and sustainable environmental practices.
We are proud to offer the FSC paper and would love for you to partner with us by requesting FSC certified paper in your next order.
